On the afternoon of July 1st, IBIH International Aerogel Academic Industrial Exchange Workshop, hosted by IBIH Advanced Materials Co., Ltd., was successfully held at the Shijiazhuang Science and Technology Building. Top experts in the aerogel field from China, Germany, Switzerland, France, and other countries gathered to share cutting-edge research through English-language keynote speeches and in-depth discussions, injecting fresh perspectives and momentum into the global aerogel industry.The workshop was chaired by Dr. WANG Yunhong, President of IBIH. In his opening remarks, Dr. WANG warmly welcomed distinguished experts and scholars from around the world. He emphasized the critical role of aerogel materials in achieving carbon neutrality goals and expressed his hope that participants would seize this opportunity for in-depth exchanges to jointly advance innovation and development in the aerogel field, ultimately contributing to building a more sustainable planet.
Prof. Andreas Timm-Giel, President of Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), emphasized the pivotal role of this workshop in advancing international academic exchange and technological collaboration in the aerogel field. He expressed his hope that, through collective efforts, the path of aerogel innovation would become more remarkable and successful, positioning aerogels as a key material for achieving sustainable development.Prof. SHEN Xiaodong from Nanjing Tech University, Chairman of the Aerogel Materials Branch under China Insulation & Energy Efficiency Materials Association, attended the workshop.
Prof. Irina Smirnova (TUHH) introduced biomass sourcing and life cycle analysis studies, emphasizing the impact of biomass transportation and origins on overall carbon footprint;Dr. Shanyu ZHAO from Empa presented recent advances in polyimide aerogels, focusing on performance enhancement, recyclability, and application expansion to drive more efficient, eco-friendly and practical developments.
Prof. SHEN Jun from Tongji University discussed carbon aerogel research, sharing its potential in energy storage and environmental applications;Prof. LI Hao from Hebei University of Technology demonstrated sustainable polymer composites with noise-reduction properties, comparing different materials' acoustic performance and presenting functional materials research including high-frequency noise attenuation;Prof. WU Hui from Tsinghua University innovated an airflow-jet solution spinning method for ultrafine fibers, revealing solution stretching mechanisms and developing integrated automated production systems;Prof. WEI Gang from Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) , Prof. ZENG Zhihui from Shandong University, and Assoc. Prof. ZHU Dongyu from Guangdong University Of Technology (GDUT) respectively presented on Lignocellulosic hydrogels/aerogels and Functional elastomers/plastics from biomass and Sustainable analysis methods for aerogels and Lightweight high-performance EM wave absorbers and Aerospace/electronic applications and Carbon-based and magnetic nanocomposites and Nanofiber dispersion techniques.
Industry experts Dr. Marc Fricke, Mr. Michael O'Connor, and Dr. Francisco Ruiz reviewed aerogel's industrial applications history (chemical plant corrosion protection, building insulation, EV battery barriers), highlighting lightweight and insulation advantages and future potential in liquid hydrogen storage.IBIH's R&D Deputy Director WANG Jianheng and Deputy Chief Engineer YANG Hao shared the company's latest scientific breakthroughs.
Through knowledge sharing and intellectual exchange, these presentations stimulated vibrant discussions and charted future directions for global aerogel development.The interactive Q&A session was particularly dynamic, with participating experts enthusiastically engaging in discussions.
